We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Palmesano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, what do you attribute your success to?
We have enjoyed 67 seasons of business in Estes Park. The most important part of our brand is undoubtedly the people. We work with incredible sales reps and companies who provide top quality products. Both locals and visitors alike have faithfully supported our business for decades. We have become part of their Estes Park experience. Our products, prices, and presentation are all about blessing the people who come to Estes Park.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We believe you should do what you love and love what you do. We LOVE our store and hope you do too. There is something very special about being a seasonal business. Each year, we completely sell out of merchandise. We spend the whole winter buying and designing new merchandise for the following season. We have the wonderful privilege of presenting the public a brand new store each year filled with all new merch. It is our hope that you will see our passion for people and products when you shop at Brownfield’s! We pride ourselves in keeping our prices fair while offering a huge, unique selection of high quality goods coupled with friendly service.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start at daybreak by grabbing a breakfast burrito from Fresh Burger and heading to the Knoll – Willows in downtown Estes Park. After a short walk to the old Birch Ruins, you get a birds eye view of Estes Park waking up for the day. The sun rises with a good morning kiss on the mountains and light begins to dance on downtown. It’s a picture-perfect spot. From there, we would head into RMNP for a hike to Lake Haiyaha. Lake Haiyaha is a a mystical color right now due to sediment in the water from a rockslide earlier this summer. No one knows how long this phenomenon will occur, so get there before it’s gone.
Lake Haiyaha is a little over a four mile round trip hike from the Bear Lake Trailhead. Along the route, hikers get to see the charming Nymph Lake and the iconic Dream Lake as well. The word Haiyaha is an indigenous word that means “rock” or “lake of many rocks”, or “big rocks.” This historic trail offers some of the most spectacular views of Longs Peak. The shoreline of the lake itself is surrounded by boulders of all shapes and sizes.
After returning to the Bear Lake Parking Lot, we would continue through the Park and enjoy the scenic drive on Trail Ridge Road. It is the highest continuous paved road in the United States offering breath-taking views in all directions. Be sure to get out at the many well-marked overlooks and take in the majesty of the mountains.
Upon returning to Estes Park, we would slip in at least one ride on the New Mustang Mountain Coaster. It’s fabulous fun for everyone. Then, we would head to dinner at Hunter’s Chophouse. It sits next to Lake Estes and boasts of terrific menu with old fashioned mountain fare. No day is complete without visiting the shops in Downtown Estes Park. After dinner, we would walk Elkhorn Avenue and most likely be accompanied by an elk or two. They enjoy strolling the street as much as the visitors. The day would be capped off by stopping into The Taffy Shop. The original Taffy Shop has been making delightful Estes Park Salt Water Taffy products since 1935, using the same, melt in your mouth recipe. It’s truly the best in the country.
Heading back to the cabin to build a fire or enjoy the hot tub is the best way to savor all of the day’s memories.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This shoutout is dedicated to my boss, Don Priem, the owner of Brownfield’s. He has spent nearly 50 years building a business that’s all about people. He has taught me about retail, tourism, and life. His passion to be the best at his craft is evident each day. It’s an honor to work for him.
